The Game Story:
DURHAM, N.C. - The top-seeded and top-ranked Virginia men's lacrosse team defeated fourth-seeded and seventh-ranked North Carolina, 10-3, on Friday evening in the semifinals of the ACC Championship at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Cavaliers (9-1) advance to the championship game on Sunday at 3:00 against the winner of the Duke/Maryland contest.

Virginia bolted out to a commanding 4-0 advantage in the first period and never looked back as the Cavaliers outshot the Tar Heels 19-6 in the first stanza. All four of Virginia's goals in the first period were scored by four different players-- Joe Yevoli, John Christmas, Conor Gill and A.J. Shannon.

The second period was controlled by North Carolina as the Tar Heels outshot Virginia 12-6, but only connected on one goal by Tim Gosier. UNC managed to score only one goal in each of the second through fourth periods on 28 shots.

Virginia was held to only one goal in the second and third periods before posting five on the board in the fourth period, including Yevoli's 26th and 27th of the season. For the match, the Cavaliers outshot the Tar Heels 43-32 and posted a 43-35 advantage in ground balls. Tillman Johnson finished the contest with 13 saves on 31 shots in goal for Virginia.

North Carolina (7-4) received goals scored by Gosier, Kyle Bell and Bryant Will.

In one of the lowest scoring contests in ACC Tournament history, North Carolina was held to an ACC Tournament low three goals. The three goals scored by the Tar Heels was the fewest goals scored by North Carolina since a 1984 loss (4-3) against John's Hopkins.
