The Game Story:
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Junior Kevin Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation as the 11th-ranked Massachusetts men's lacrosse team beat No. 18 Penn State, 13-12, this afternoon in a crucial ECAC contest at Jeffrey Field. The Minutemen improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the ECAC with their seventh-consecutive win since a season-opening loss in overtime to Hofstra.

Leveille's goal gave the Minutemen their first lead of the game. On the ensuing face-off, senior Dan Paccione (Amityville, N.Y.) controlled the ball and the Minutemen were able to run out the clock. Junior Chris Fiore (Freeport, N.Y.) led the team as he scored a career-high five goals.

The Nittany Lions took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Minutemen scored the last three goals of the stanza. Fiore got the Minutemen on the board at the 6:01 mark. Leveille assisted on the play. Sophomore Neil Lundburg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and senior Don Little (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each scored to tie the game at three.

Penn State, once again, scored the first three times in the second quarter to take a 6-3 advantage. After senior Marc Morley (Canton, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal on an extra-man opportunity, the Nittany Lions recorded two more scores to take an 8-4 lead. Fiore gave the Minutemen some momentum heading into the locker room as he recorded his second goal of the game with just one second remaining in the half.

In the third quarter, Fiore brought the Minutemen within two goals at 8-6 with a goal at the 5:15 mark. Leveille was credited with his second assist of the day. After a Nittany Lion score less than two minutes later, Paccione brought Massachusetts back within two goals with an unassisted tally at the 2:59 mark.

Penn State scored first in the fourth quarter, but the Minutemen recorded three consecutive goals to tie the game at 10. Paccione, Fiore and sophomore Jeff Zywicki (Nepean, Ontario) each scored. Penn State took a quick 11-10 advantage at the 5:52 mark, but Morley scored his second goal of the game to tie it up again. The Nittany Lions controlled the ensuing draw and marched down the field for a goal just 10 seconds after Morley tied it.

Penn State held onto its slim 12-11 lead until Fiore scored his fifth goal of the game with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score. 19 seconds later, Leveille scored the game-winner, giving the Minutemen their first lead of the game.

Senior co-captain Will Driscoll led the Nittany Lions with four goals as they fell to 3-4 overall on the season and 3-4 in ECAC play.

Freshman Bill Schell (Mahopac, N.Y.) made 12 saves in the cage for the Minutemen in winning his third consecutive game since taking over the starting role. Chris Garrity made 18 saves for Penn State.
