The Game Story:
Philadelphia - Ryan Kelly stoned Doug Kocis with 24 seconds remaining in regulation as Penn held onto to hand visiting-Harvard its first defeat of the season, 7-5, at Franklin Field. Mike Iannacone's third goal of the contest on an extra-man opportunity with 5:13 left in the game gave the Red and Blue a two-goal cushion and squelched any Crimson thoughts of a comeback. Penn improved to 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Ivy League.

Harvard used three unanswered goals to close within one, 6-5, before Iannacone allowed the Quakers to regain a two-goal lead in the closing minutes. Penn used a four-goal second period to build a 5-2 halftime lead, and extended that margin to four goals in the third period when Iannacone scored off an Alex Kopicki feed, 10:32 in the second half.

The Crimson did stage a mini-comeback, as Michael Baly scored with 3:22 remaining in the third to close the margin back to three goals. Penn was then forced to kill off consecutive one-minute penalties in the final 2:49 of the third period. Harvard ripped off six shots during the extra-man opportunities with Kelly making three saves to make the Quakers' three-goal lead hold-up.

Before the start of the fourth period however, the Red and Blue were hit with a huge blow as Kopicki was whistled for an illegal stick, which resulted in Penn playing the next three minutes a man-down. Harvard came out firing again, and Kelly and the defense continued to stand tall. With 45 seconds remaining in the penalty, the Quakers' bench was levied with a misconduct penalty at 2:45 of the fourth period. Jay Wich scored 17 seconds later to pull the Crimson to within two goals, 6-4.

Over four and a half minutes later, Jeff Gottschall made things interesting when he found the back of the net to pull Harvard within one with 9:39 remaining in the contest. Two minutes earlier, Crimson netminder Jake McKenna made one of his game-high 11 saves on Peter Scott who had what looked like an open net in front of him.

In addition to Iannacone's second three-goal outing of the season, Kopicki added one goal and two assists for his second-straight three-point performance. Peter Scott, Will Phillips and Jake Martin also scored goals in the victory, and Kelly recorded 10 saves in net for the Red and Blue, who are now 1-1 after the second of five-straight Ivy League games.
