added two assists to lead 12th-ranked Princeton to an 18-4 win over No. 17
Penn in front of 1,420 at the Class of 1952 Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The victory came in Princeton's first game since Yale ended the Tigers'
37-game Ivy League winning streak. Princeton was playing as a non-Top 10
team for the first time in 168 games dating to 1990.
"I was worried sick about this one," said Princeton coach Bill Tierney. "I
wasn't sure how we'd come back. I thought either they'd handle us or we'd
handle them. I didn't think it'd be 10-9."
Princeton led 4-1 after one quarter and 10-2 at intermission. Hartofilis
equaled the career-high he had set in the 2000 NCAA semifinal win over
Virginia.
"We needed to win," Hartofilis said. "We have some big league games to
play, and we can't let any more get away. This was a good win for us."
B.J. Prager scored twice for the Tigers and became the sixth player in
school history to reach the 100 goal mark for his career. He needs three
more to tie Josh Sims for fifth-place at Princeton. Prager's 100th goal
came on a feed from Ryan Boyle, marking the 28 time in Prager's career he
has scored a goal off a Boyle feed. Boyle had three goals and two assists,
while Josh White had one goal and four assists. Julian Gould had 11 saves
while allowing three goals in three quarters.
Princeton's win meant the Tigers have not lost consecutive Ivy games since
1989. Princeton, winner of seven straight Ivy titles, is assured no worse
than a share of the championship by winning its remaining four league
games. The winner of the Ivy title gets the league's automatic bid to the
NCAA tournament, and the winner of the head-to-head matchup would get the
bid in case of a two-way tie. In the event of a three-way tie, that bid
could be decided be a random draw out of a hat.
Princeton hosts Duke Friday night (7 p.m.) at Class of 1952 Stadium before
finishing its regular season with four straight league games, three of
which will be on the road.
The Princeton-Penn game will be televised by CN8 Saturday, April 6, at 7 p.m.
