The Game Story:
Princeton, N.J. -- Ryan Boyle had a goal and five assists and Jason Doneger scored four goals, three in the decisive third-quarter, to lead No. 7 Princeton to a 12-9 win over Yale in front of 2,149 at the Class of the 1952 Stadium.

The win came in the Ivy League opener for the Tigers, who have won nine straight league championships. It was also Yale's first trip to Princeton since the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 15-13 in 2002 to end Princeton's 37-game Ivy winning streak two games short of the all-time record.

Boyle's five assists moved him into second place all-time at Princeton with 134, one better than Jon Hess and 40 away from Kevin Lowe for first place.

Yale, playing a deliberate style, led 5-4 at halftime and 6-4 eight seconds into the third quarter on a Seth Goldberg goal before Princeton scored the next seven to take command. Yale's first six goals came on just 12 shots.

"Usually, the first goal of the second half is big, and they scored in eight seconds," said Princeton coach Bill Tierney. "I was having flashbacks to two years ago. But then we started playing well. We won some face-offs. Guys started shooting better. We did what we had to do."

Princeton led 2-0 and 4-2 in the first quarter, but Yale shut Princeton out in the second quarter to build its halftime lead. Down 6-4 after Goldberg's goal, Princeton tied it 6-6 on a pair of Doneger goals one minute apart to start the 7-0 run.

The Tigers would lead 9-6 after the third quarter and then stretch it to 11-6 on goals by freshmen Scott Sowanick and Whitney Hayes to start the fourth. Yale would get no closer than three the rest of the way.

"This is the best the league has been in my four years," said Boyle of the Ivy League, where all seven teams were either ranked or receiving votes. "Each game is a huge challenge."

In addition to moving past Hess in assists, Boyle moved within three points of tying Chris Massey for fourth all-time in points scored. Boyle now has 55 goals and 134 assists.

"I'm not a big stat guy," Tierney said. "Never have been, never will be. But when you start talking about the guys he's up there with, that says a lot about what kind of player Ryan Boyle is."

Peter Trombino had two goals and two assists for Princeton. Goldberg led Yale with three.

Princeton hosts Rutgers next Saturday (noon) in a game that will be seen on College Sports Television.
