The Game Story:
PISCATAWAY, NJ (April 2, 2005) - Three different Loyola players
scored two goals apiece as the Greyhounds built an 8-5 lead after
three quarters and defeated Rutgers (3-5, 1-2 ECAC), 10-5, in men's
lacrosse action at Yurcak Field on Saturday afternoon.

With on-and-off heavy rain and wind wreaking havoc, Loyola (4-3, 3-1
ECAC) was able to strike first when Matt Monfett scored an unassisted
goal at the 7:40 mark of the first period. Rutgers counted with a
goal from senior Jamie Lovejoy (Holbrook, NY) three minutes later,
but the Greyhounds received another tally from Monfrett late in the
first quarter (2:17) to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the opening
stanza.

Junior midfielder Devon Britts (Scottsville, VA) knotted the score at
2-2 when he took a pass from sophomore Matt Gaines (Abington, MD) at
the 11:03 mark of the second quarter, but Loyola scored three
consecutive goals over a three-minute span to take a 5-2 lead. The
Scarlet Knights were able to cut the deficit to two, 5-3, on
Lovejoy's second goal of the game with just over two minutes to play
in the first half.

The Scarlet Knights and Greyhounds traded goals early in the third
period, with freshman Nate Sanderson (Orangeville, Ontario)
connecting on his 13th tally of the season, but Loyola's Greg Leonard
scored off a feed from Andrew Spack to make the score 7-4 with 9:37
remaining in the quarter.

After Sean Battoni (Ringoes, NJ) scored to cut the gap to 7-5,
Rutgers had a man-up opportunity and possession in its offensive zone
in the final two minutes of the quarter, but the Scarlet Knights'
best scoring opportunity was snuffed out when a shot hit the post.
In all, Rutgers had four shots that deflected off the post over the
course of the game.

Loyola's fourth-quarter goals came from Leonard on a man-up
opportunity and Jordan Rabidou. The Greyhounds held a 30-29
advantage in shots, and RU goalie Greg Havalchak (Corning, NY) made
11 saves. The Scarlet Knights also scooped up 35 ground balls and
won eight-of-18 face-offs. Lovejoy (two goals) and Gaines (two
assists) led Rutgers' offensive effort.

Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, April 9, when it hosts
intra-state rival Princeton at 3:00 p.m. in Piscataway, NJ. The game
will be broadcast live on CN8 television.
