The win improves the Great Danes to 5-2, 2-0 in conference play while Stony Brook slips to 5-2, 1-1.
Down 9-6 in the third quarter, Stony Brook roared back thanks to junior Chris Tracey. The midfielder scored the natural hat trick, tallying three times in a span of 5:50 to even the game at 9 with 1:10 to go in the third quarter.
Early in the final quarter, Merrick Thomson found Resetarits alone on the doorstep and his goal put UAlbany ahead 10-9. Chris Martocchia and Thomson added tallies later in the final stanza and Kevin Rae kept the Seawolves off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Thomson led the way for the Great Danes with four goals and two assists. Martocchia finished with three goals and Rae made 11 saves to earn the win. Chris Tracey totaled a career-high four goals to lead SB while Rhys Duch added two goals and an assist.
It was a game of runs, with UAlbany jumping out to a 4-2 lead in the first quarter before Stony Brook tallied four straight times in the second quarter capped by Adam Marksberry's tally with 11 seconds remaining in the half. But Brendan Russell scored with .8 seconds to go to pull Albany within 6-5 at the break.
Russell's goal sparked the Great Danes who opened the third quarter with four consecutive goals, two off the stick of Thomson, before Tracey got SB even with three straight tallies.
The loss snapped a 12-game home winning streak for SB dating back to March of 2004.
Stony Brook is back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts No. 5 Army. Face-off is 7 p.m. |
