but his Senior Day was one to remember. Reppert scored four goals Saturday to
lead the Tigers to a 20-8 win over Drexel.
Reppert, who came into the game with just 19 goals in nine games,
scored three goals in the opening quarter,
part of an 8-0 run in the first 15 minutes.
"I wanted to have a great game, but it just feels weird coming out here
for the last time," Reppert said. "It's my last game here, it went so fast."
The Tigers (6-4, 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association) stretched the lead
to 12-0 before Drexel finally got on the board with less than four minutes
remaining in the half. It was the second consecutive big opening half for the
Tigers, who took a 10-1 lead in the first 30 minutes Wednesday against UMBC.
Head Coach Tony Seaman said the Tigers are playing with a looseness
they haven't shown since last season, which has the offense back on track.
"They're starting to feel good about themselves again," he said. "The
Villanova game was a good game to win, when we're behind most of the game, to
come back. I think that gave them some confidence."
Fittingly on Senior Day, Reppert was responsible for the Tigers' first
two goals, 31 seconds apart. After Reppert's second, Kyle Campbell scored off
the face-off, his 27th goal of the year, and the Tigers' third in 39 seconds.
Campbell finished with three goals, extending his scoring streak to 27 games.
The midfielders took over from there, with Collin Meerholz and Drew
Pfarr scoring back-to-back goals to
extend the lead to 5-0.
After Reppert capped off his hat trick to make it 6-0, Todd Spear
scored an extra man goal on a one-timer from Ryan Obloj, and Alex Fountain
finished the quarter with a bounce shot with 34 seconds left.
Towson continued to control the game in the second quarter, in large
part because of the face-off work of junior Zak Smith. Smith, who came into the
game as the nation's leader in face-off percentage, helped Towson take a 12-3
advantage on draws in the first half. The Tigers finished the game winning
26-of-31 on face-offs.
"We faced off once again terrifically," Seaman said. "That's a big
part. You can get the ball back, keep making good shots and do all the little
things."
After being stonewalled in the first half by John Hunt (3 saves, 1
goal, 30:00 minutes), Drexel broke through on freshman Reed Sothoron in the
third quarter, scoring five goals in the period. However, the Tigers matched
them each step of the way, scoring seven goals of their own to take a 19-6 lead
before clearing the bench.
"I think we've been playing a little bit better the last two games,"
Reppert said. "I really don't know what it is. We're more confident I think,
and everyone is playing like last year's team a little more."
Drexel, which came in having won five of its last six games, fell to
2-2 in CAA play and 7-5 overall. The Dragons were led by sophomore attackman
Mark Williamson, who had three goals. Junior middie Pat Friel added a pair of
goals and three assists in the loss.
Towson hits the road for its final two games of the season, starting
next week in a televised match-up with No. 2 Johns Hopkins.
