The Game Story:
TOWSON, Md. - - Freshman attackman Bobby Griebe scored a game-high three goals, as Towson University earned its second straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title with a 13-8 victory over Drexel University on Saturday evening at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

In completing a perfect 5-0 record in conference play, the 10th-ranked Tigers improved to 8-3 overall, while the visiting Dragons fall to 4-8 on the season and 1-4 in the CAA. The loss eliminated the Dragons from the conference tournament, which begins on Wednesday, May 5th. Towson will host Hofstra at Unitas Stadium, while Villanova will play Delaware in the other semifinal at Villanova Stadium.

Drexel took a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter on a goal by midfielder Mike Filippone. Griebe gave the Tigers a 2-1 advantage by scoring back-to-back goals off assists from senior midfielder Brian Myers and freshman Oliver Bacon.

The Dragons tied the game at 2-2 with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter on an unassisted tally from Joe Fiore before Myers and junior attackman Kyle Cunningham regained the lead for the Tigers with consecutive goals in the final four minutes of the first half.

Towson opened the third quarter with two goals in the first three minutes of the period before Musci scored a goal off a Matt Bancroft feed to narrow the deficit to 6-3. After a goal by Erik Haugen cut the Tiger advantage to 6-4, Towson went on a 6-0 run over a nine-minute span to take a commanding 12-4 lead with 11:57 remaining in regulation. Six different Tigers scored during the spurt.

A goal by Pat Simpson ended the Tiger run with 6:34 left in the fourth stanza, narrowing the gap to 12-5. After a goal by freshman Ryan Preuss, Drexel ran off three straight goals in the game^Òs final four minutes for the five-goal margin.

Senior midfielder Ben DeFelice led the Tigers at the face-off ^ÓX^Ô by winning 14 of 17 draws. He also registered 13 ground balls and scored one goal. As a team, the Tigers won 16 of 25 face-offs against the Dragons.

Junior Reed Sothoron made eight saves in the victory for Towson, while Ryan Harney and Bryan Maggio combined to make 16 saves for the visiting Dragons.

Towson resumes its regular season schedule on Tuesday night, hosting University of Maryland, Baltimore County at 7:30 p.m.
