top-ranked Johns Hopkins shook off the defict with an 11-0 run to overcome the
Tigers 17-9 Saturday night on Minnegan Field in Towson Stadium.
The win improved the No. 1 Blue Jays^Ò record to 10-1 as they beat Towson for
the 27th time in the 30-game series. The No. 10 Tigers end their regular season
with a 6-5 record. Towson, by virtue of its 5-0 record in the Colonial Athletic
Association, is the top seed in next week^Òs league tournament which begins at
home on Wednesday night for the Tigers against Drexel at 7:30 pm. Hofstra will
host Villanova on Wednesday in the other CAA semifinal. The championship game
for the league^Òs automatic berth into the NCAA tournament will be played
Saturday night with the highest remaining seed hosting.
The Tigers stood toe-to-toe with the Blue Jays early, erasing a 3-1 Hopkins^Ò
advantage. Nine different Towson players scored as the Tigers worked to a 9-6
lead on Ryan Obloj^Òs unassisted goal with 11:08 to play in the third quarter.
But that was to be Towson^Òs final score, as they went scoreless for the rest
of the 26:08 in the game. The Blue Jays^Ò offense awoke from that point,
scoring four goals to take the lead at the end of the third period. Bobby
Benson^Òs goal with 11 seconds left in the quarter put the Blue Jays ahead 10-9
and they never looked back.
Benson added more fuel to the Blue Jays^Ò rally when he scored into an open
Towson net off a turnover to start the fourth quarter. Less than a minute later
Kevin Boland, who led all scorers with four goals, scored for a 12-9 Hopkins^Ò
lead and the rout was on. Hopkins outshot the Tigers 26-14 in the second half
and 41-34 for the game.
Boland got scoring help from Benson and Adam Doneger with three goals each.
Conor Ford chipped in with a career high five assists for the Blue Jays, who
extended their April record to 38-1 since 1996. Hopkins^Ò goalie Rob Scherr had
12 saves.
The Tigers were led by Peyton Chane with a goal (the game^Òs first) and two
assists. Tiger goalkeeper Reed Sothoron finished with nine saves.
The Blue Jays end their regular season next Saturday afternoon at home against
Loyola.
