a career high 19 saves, and the UMBC offense produced a season-high 15
goals as the Retrievers (4-6) upset #18 Army (6-5), 15-9, in a

Flanagan^Òs father Thomas, passed away unexpectantly earlier this week.
But the co-captain elected to play, and he kept UMBC in the game with
seven first quarter saves. Army fired off 19 first quarter shots and
led, 4-1, after 15 minutes. But the Retrievers opened the second quarter
with four straight goals, taking the lead at 5-4 on a Jon Haraysm goal
with 6:43 remaining in the second quarter. After Army^Òs Jeff Bryan tied
the score at the with 5:40 to play in the half, Retriever junior
midfielder Josh Dodson gave UMBC the lead for good at 6-5 on a fast
break score with 1:52 to play in the half.
UMBC exploded for seven consecutive goals to open the third quarter and
take command of the game, leading 13-6 heading into the final quarter.
Justin Smith scored two of his three goals in that stretch, while
