The Game Story:
In an emotional day at UMBC Stadium, junior goalkeeper Tim Flanagan made a career high 19 saves, and the UMBC offense produced a season-high 15 goals as the Retrievers (4-6) upset #18 Army (6-5), 15-9, in a non-conference game.

Flanagan^Òs father Thomas, passed away unexpectantly earlier this week. But the co-captain elected to play, and he kept UMBC in the game with seven first quarter saves. Army fired off 19 first quarter shots and led, 4-1, after 15 minutes. But the Retrievers opened the second quarter with four straight goals, taking the lead at 5-4 on a Jon Haraysm goal with 6:43 remaining in the second quarter. After Army^Òs Jeff Bryan tied the score at the with 5:40 to play in the half, Retriever junior midfielder Josh Dodson gave UMBC the lead for good at 6-5 on a fast break score with 1:52 to play in the half.

UMBC exploded for seven consecutive goals to open the third quarter and take command of the game, leading 13-6 heading into the final quarter. Justin Smith scored two of his three goals in that stretch, while Harasym assisted on three of the UMBC scores.

Three Retrievers scored career highs. Harasym tallied three goals and added three assists, junior attackman Joey Kestermann produced two goals and four assists and junior Scott Steele had two goals and two assists. Justin Smith added three goals for UMBC.

Army sophomore attackman Jeff Bryan led all goal scorers with four goals, while linemates Jimmy Vlahakis had a pair of goals and Tim Pearson added two assists. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for UMBC and a three-game winning streak for the Black Knights. Army is winless (0-4) on the road this season. UMBC was three of three on extra-man situations, and is now 9 of its last 17 over the last four games.
