The Game Story:
VILLANOVA, PA. - VILLANOVA, PA. - The young guns stepped up when their team needed them most and carried No. 14 Villanova to a 15-6 pasting of No. 19 Delaware in the men's lacrosse Colonial Athletic Association semifinal game. The Wildcats will face No. 11 Towson, who defeated Hofstra, 7-6, in the other semifinal, on Saturday for the conference title and automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore Brendan O'Donnell paced Villanova with three goals and three assists, while junior Dan Fanelli registered a career night with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Matt Starker also lit up the board with two goals and two assists.

The Wildcats had good things happen right at the start as the opening shot by Matt Lucas went off Delaware goalie Chris Collins and into the net. O'Donnell then ripped off three consecutive goals and Starker added another as the Wildcats built their lead to 5-0 with 3:04 to play in the first quarter.

Joe Trentzsch put the Blue Hens on the board a minute later with a goal off a feed from Jordan Hall, making the score 5-1 after one period.

The Nova offense continued to pour it on, scoring four unanswered to start the second quarter. Marc Creegan and Eric Heidenberger scored back-to-back and Fanelli added two more as the Wildcats jumped out to a 9-1 lead and never looked back.

Along with the offensive regulars, Villanova's Eric Webber scored his first career goal and Neil Brazitis registered his first collegiate point with an assist on the fourth quarter tally.

In goal for the Wildcats, Joseph Canuso finished with eight saves, while Delaware netminder Collins stopped 11 shots.

Matt Alrich led the Delaware scoring with two goals and one assist.

Villanova returns to action against Towson in the CAA Championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Unitas Stadium.
