The Game Story:
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. ----- The Villanova men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over Hofstra, but the Pride held the Wildcats scoreless for the next 30 minutes and scored six unanswered goals en route to a 12-5 Hofstra victory. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Hofstra improves to 2-1 on the year, 1-1 in CAA play. Hofstra now leads the all-time series 2-1.

Senior Mike Holloway (Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep) scored his fourth goal of the season less than one minute into the contest to give Villanova a 1-0 lead. Freshman Dan Fanelli (Wantagh, N.Y/ Wantagh) extended the Wildcats lead to 2-0, with 10:25 remaining in the first quarter. Sophomore Richie Kratz (Succasunna, N.J./ Delbarton) tallied his third assist of the year on Fanelli's goal.

Hofstra would score five goals before intermission and take a 5-2 lead into the locker room at half time. The Pride would add to their lead 55 seconds into the second half on a goal by Tom Kessler (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville). Kessler's goal in the early seconds of the third quarter was the first of four second half goals as he finished the night with four goals and one assist.

The Wildcats would capitalize on an extra-man opportunity with 9:32 left to play in the third quarter on a goal by freshman Marc Creegan (West Babylon, N.Y./ St. Anthony's). With 5:27 remaining in the third quarter Villanova trimmed the lead to 6-4 as senior Peter Franchetti (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./ Germantown Academy) collected a pass from classmate Justin Marks (Glenmoore, Pa./ Downingtown) and found the back of the cage. It was Franchetti's fourth goal of the season.

Hofstra's defense again buckled down allowing the Pride to outscore Villanova 6-1 in the final quarter on their way to 12-5 CAA victory. Junior Brian Marks (Glenmoore, Pa./ Downingtown) accounted for the Wildcats lone goal in the fourth quarter. Holloway assisted on the play.

Freshman goalkeeper Dan Biser (Baltimore, Md./ Boys' Latin) made 12 saves in the losing effort, allowing 12 goals in 45 minutes of play.

Villanova will look to get back on track on Saturday, March 9, as the Wildcats host Drexel in a CAA match-up at Villanova Stadium in the 'Cats 2002 home opener at 3:00 p.m. The game will be the second of a double-header with the Villanova women's lacrosse team hosting Boston College at Noon on the recently resurfaced turf.
