The Game Story:
VILLANOVA, PA. - Matt Lucas won the face-off and then proceeded to win the game as Villanova defeated Lafayette, 7-6, in double overtime on Saturday at Villanova Stadium.

With the score tied at 6-6 after the first overtime, Lucas picked the ball up off the face-off and raced down the field, firing the game-winning goal to keep the Wildcats unbeaten at home this season.

Villanova (4-1) led 3-1 after the first quarter with two goals from Lucas and another score by Marc Creegan. The Wildcats tacked on two more when David Cacciabeve and Chris Kramer found the net to give the team a 5-1 lead with 8:30 left in the second period.

Lafayette fought back with tallies from Drew Weisman and Andrew Forbes to make it a 5-3 game at halftime. The Leopards then scored three unanswered in the second half to forge ahead 6-5 with 4:54 remaining in the game. Mike Scolaro, Leo Stinson and Forbes each scored in the second half.

Cacciabeve tied it for the Wildcats with 2:51 to go off a feed from Matt Starker, but neither team could bury the game-winner in regulation. Both teams traded opportunities in the first overtime before Lucas won the game at the start of the second.

Lucas finished with three goals to pace Villanova's attack, while Cacciabeve notched two goals and Starker dished two assists. Paul Genovese picked up seven ground balls to lead the defense.

For the Leopards (1-5), Forbes registered two goals and an assist, while Bart Seifert managed a goal and two assists.

Lafayette goalie Michael Koch turned in a stellar performance with 19 saves, and Joseph Canuso tallied seven saves for Villanova.
