| | | | Current Record : (3-2) | Current Record : (3-2) | | | | Team Page For 2005 | Team Page For 2005 | | | | | | The Game Story: | NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Cornell men's lacrosse team found its rhythm right in time for the Ivy League season, as the 10th-ranked Big Red put together a dominating 15-6 victory over Yale at Johnson Field on Saturday afternoon. Cornell, which extended its win streak over the Bulldogs to six games, improves to 3-2 on the year with a 1-0 conference mark, while Yale falls to 3-2 and 1-1 in Ivy play.
After trailing 2-1 midway through the first quarter, Cornell owned the remainder of the contest, scoring four straight goals to take a lead it would not relinquish.
The Big Red defensive midfield turned in a spectacular effort, helping force a good portion of Yale's 29 turnovers and setting up numerous fast breaks that led to scores on the other end. Two attackmen set career highs, as senior Kevin Nee scored four goals and junior Derek Haswell chipped in with a hat trick.
The 15-goal effort by the Big Red was its highest since its last trip to New Haven, a 16-8 victory in 2003.
Sophomore goaltender Matt McMonagle recorded nine saves, including five in the third quarter to help protect the Big Red's 8-4 halftime lead.
The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, April 2, when it takes on Penn for its Ivy home opener beginning at noon. |
