The Bulldogs improved to 2-4 by outshooting the Hawks 48-19 and having a 37-19 edge in ground balls.
Gregory DuBoff kept the ball in Yale's possession by winning 14 of 16 faceoffs and taking five ground balls.
George Carafides made six saves and picked up the win in goal before being replaced by Joe Costa (0 saves) and then Johnathan Falcone (1 save) for the last five minutes.
Jon McMahon made 13 saves for Hartford (0-8) and kept the visitors in the game for the first 30 minutes while the Hawks got goals from three different players.
Yale jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Francis Johnson began the scoring at 13:21 with a 20-foot shot that bounced low and then Jermone Arnold hit the net at 12:29 with a long, low shot.
The Hawks did not attempt their first shot until 8:13, while the first shot on target was their first goal at 5:46. Michael Cudmore cut the lead in half with a deke and shot from short range.
Four minutes later Casertano (4 points) increased the lead to 3-1 with a pretty spin move from behind the goal and a quick shot that whizzed past McMahon to end the first-period scoring.
Carafides and McMahon made some big saves and did not allow a ball to penetrate a goal for the first nine minutes of the second period. That stand ended when Jacob Eustice converted a pass from Tom Harris at 5:55 to make it 3-2.
The Elis, who outshot Hartford 23-9 and won all 10 faceoffs in the first half, responded with three straight over a span of 1:39 to enter the half with a 6-2 advantage. Gibson (4 points) one-timed a perfect feed from Casertano before Michael Barry converted a Gibson pass for an extra-man goal. Fuchs fired a long shot over McMahon's shoulder at 3:28 to make it a four-goal lead.
Colin Ford opened the scoring in the second half when he crashed the net and converted a Casertano feed at 8:40 to make it 7-2.
After the visitors cut the lead to four, Fuchs got his second of the night at 2:59 and Yale carried an 8-3 lead into the fourth.
Fifty-five seconds into the final frame Michael Barry picked off a Hartford pass deep in the Hawks' end and fed Casertano for his second tally and a six-goal advantage.
Gibson notched his second of the night with the extra man late in the fourth after a great pass from Ford that gave the Blue a 10-3 lead.
Brian Douglass bounced a shot in with a little over two minutes left to close out the scoring.
The Bulldogs play at Princeton this Saturday at noon in a game that airs live on CSTV.
