With the victory, the Colonials extend their all-time series record to 3-0 over the Griffins, while improving to 3-1 in opening day games.
11 different Colonials tallied goals with the team accumulating 27 points from 16 goals and 11 assists.
Senior Andrew Watt (Kitchener, Ontario / Grand River Collegiate) paced the offense with a five point performance, tallying three goals and two assists. Freshman Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) and junior Dan Kerch (Chesterfield, Mo. / DeSmet) each had three points with Moore knocking down a goal and two assists in his collegiate debut and Kerch with two goals and an assist.
Freshman Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) marked a two-goal day, while senior Michael Fleming (Sarnia, Ontario / St. Christopher), juniors Brandon Johnson (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster), Frank Keel (Fairfax, Va. / James W. Robinson), sophomore Pat Smith (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) and freshman Taylor Caparosa (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis) added a goal and an assist apiece.
Sophomores Tom Kingsmore (Erie, Pa. / McDowell), Rob Laughner (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) and freshman Keith Lee (Hudson, Oh. / Western Reserve Academy) supplied the team with goals. Junior Coleman Proctor (Powell, Oh. / Worthington-Kilbourne) rounded out the scoring with an assist.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the first quarter, Robert Morris came storming back with an offensive explosion. The Colonials put together a 15-goal run, scoring four goals in the first, five in the second, four in the third and three into the fourth quarter before the Griffins could catch their breath.
Seton Hill broke up the melee with a man-up goal early in the fourth quarter when Justin Menefee connected off a pass from teammate Ben Petchel, who led the Griffins in points with two assists.
RMU would go onto add one more with 2:32 left to play, solidifying the win and marking the team’s highest goal output in program history.
Sophomore Sal Barcia (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) registered his first collegiate win with three saves and one goal allowed in 35:20. Senior John Kennedy (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) played 18:36 and made eight saves while sophomore Dan MacNeil (Troy, Mich. / Athens) wrapped the game up with one save in 6:04.
Robert Morris held the advantage in shots, 35-21, while winning the ground ball battle, 26-21. Both teams converted on the man-up with RMU going 1-of-5 and SHU converting 1-of-4.
The Colonials travel to State College, Pa., next weekend to take on Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 16 in a non-conference match-up. Game time is schedule for 1:30 p.m. |
