The Game Story:
Alfred, N.Y. - The fourth-ranked men's lacrosse team (6-0) opened conference play with a 13-5 win over Alfred. The Bombers extended their Empire 8-record conference winning streak to 24 straight games.

The Saxons kept the Bombers in check early, racing out to a 2-0 lead and controlling the ball for long stretches at a time in the first quarter. A goal by senior Logan Bobzien (Arapahoe/Centennial, Colo.) put the Bombers on the board with six seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Ithaca took control of the game from that point, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half. A goal by sophomore Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) gave the Bombers a 4-2 halftime lead.

The Bombers blew the game open in the second half, scoring nine of the half's first 10 goals. Senior Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) scored three goals in less than four minutes early in the fourth quarter to give Ithaca a 12-3 lead.

Nelligan (four goals, one assist) and Heckman (three goals, two assists) led the Ithaca attack with five points each. Junior Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) added two goals and and two assists.

The Bomber defense held the Saxons scoreless for a 33:42 stretch from the first quarter until late in the third quarter. Junior goalkeeper Ben Connery (Homer/Homer) made six saves. Senior long stick midfielder Brandon Rose (Rush-Henrietta/Rochester) caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Junior midfielder Matt Cutter (Needham/Needham, Mass.) had six ground balls.

The Bombers return to action Saturday with a home showdown against third-ranked Cortland. Game time is 1 p.m.
