The comeback magic ran out for the Ohio Wesleyan men's lacrosse team as Alfred held on for a non-conference win on
Wednesday in Baltimore.
Alfred jumped to an 11-4 lead at halftime as Trevor Archer had 3 goals and Steve Douglas and Anthony Fiorelli had 2 goals
apiece. The Saxons still led by a score of 14-7 as each team scored 3 times in the final quarter.
Ohio Wesleyan came back with 6 straight goals, closing to within 14-13 with 5 minutes to play but could not take
advantage of a man-advantage situation in the final 3 minutes of regulation time.
Senior attacker Matt Coughlin (Denver, Colo./Regis Jesuit) had the Bishops' last chance, making a rush toward the Saxon
cage with less than 10 seconds to play, but he could not get off a shot.
Junior midfielder Andy Rowe (Alpharetta, Ga./Penfield, NY) led the Bishops with 5 goals and an assist, while Coughlin
finished with 2 goals and 4 assists. Freshman attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) added 2 goals and 2
assists and junior midfielder Michael Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored 2 goals.
Freshman Mike Comeau (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) stopped 13 shots in the Bishop goal.
