The Game Story:
Fort Ann, NY-Sophomore attack Jake Rick scored 3 goals and dished out 2 assists as Castleton State College defeated New England College 10-9 in men’s lacrosse action at Golden Goal in Fort Ann, NY. The win is Castleton’s third straight as the Spartans improve to 3-2 on the young season.

New England College held a 3-2 advantage at halftime, but a 5-3 spurt gave Castleton a 7-6 edge entering the decisive fourth period.

The Spartans tallied two-straight goals to open the period and appeared to have the game in hand with a 9-6 lead and less than seven minutes remaining. New England College would not go away, however, scoring three of the next four goals to bring the final to 10-9.

Joining Rick in the Castleton scoring column was classmate, Michael Martinez with three goals and one assist. Senior Brett Quillia added two goals and one assist, while Daniel Luzzi added one goal and one assist. Phil Barry scored what proved to be the game winner with 6:44 remaining in the game.

Leading the Pilgrim offense was Colin Gordon with three goals and one assist, while Dillon Lantz added three goals. Matt Vozzolo added one goal and one assist for the 0-4 Pilgrims.

Christopher Wynne stopped eight shots in the win, while Nick Aquaviva stopped seven in the loss.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday on March 29 when they travel to Mount Ida College for a North Atlantic Conference match-up beginning at 1:00 pm.
