Juniors Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) and Jake Jones (Amherst, Mass.) each had three goals to lead the Pride (4-5, 2-0 Pilgrim). Sophomores Kyle Gable (Somers, Conn.) and Joe Macchi (Mahopac, N.Y.), and freshman Austin Orsini (Penfield, N.Y.), junior Skyler Wiemokly (Amherst, Mass.) tallied two goals apiece in the victory.
Clark (3-6, 1-1 Pilgrim) was led by brothers Sam and Garrett McAdam (Portland, Me.) with two goals each. Senior Andrew Webber (Allendale, N.J.), junior Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.), freshman Tim Roche (Centerport, N.Y.), senior Dan Stern (Westport, Conn.), sophomore J.C. Tsagarakis (Stonington, Conn.), and senior Daniel Rosenak (Montclair, N.J.) added single goals for Clark.
Springfield went up 9-0 in the first period and led 14-4 at halftime.
However, Clark got its second quarter goals from Tsagarakis and Webber just 29 seconds apart early in the period and netted two unanswered goals on back-to-back shots from S. Roche and G. McAdam to close out the half.
The game was evenly played in the second half. Clark held a combined 20-17 shot advantage and both teams were even with six goals apiece, but the Cougars could never recover from the early 9-0 deficit.
Springfield outshot Clark, 45-32, in the game, but held only a 25-24 edge in groundballs.
Junior Tyler Campbell (Portland, Ore.) had 16 saves for Clark.
Three goalies saw action for Springfield. Junior starter Tom Albano (Ridgewood, N.J.) recorded four saves, while sophomores Matt Lecuyer (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Matt Cipolla (Harrison, N.Y.) stopped one and seven shots, respectively.
Clark will host Plymouth State University on Tuesday (7 p.m.). Springfield will play at Massachusetts Maritime next Saturday (1 p.m.). |
