SANFORD, FLA. - Sophomore Brian Krol (Niskayuna) scored a career-high four goals to help lead the nationally third-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team to a 12-4 win versus Clarkson Saturday afternoon in Sanford, Florida. The Red Dragons improved to 3-0 with the win, while the game for the Golden Knights was their first of the season.
Senior Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) had two goals and an assist for Cortland, while senior Adam Hyde (West Seneca/West Seneca East) scored a pair of goals and senior Billy Fuchs (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) recorded a goal and three assists. Freshman Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) scored the first points of his collegiate career with a goal and an assist. Junior goalie Mike Robinson (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) made 12 saves in 55 minutes, and freshman Tom Holden (Corning/Corning East) made two saves in the final five minutes.
For Clarkson, Greg Gibbons had a goal and an assist, and Tim Ross, Cory Scheider and Josh Flacke each added a goal. Goalie Greg Lamb made 24 saves.
Cortland led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter and 5-0 at the half. The Red Dragons pushed their lead to 8-1 after the third quarter and outscored the Golden Knights, 4-3, in the fourth quarter for the 12-4 final.
