Drew Piekarski notched his third goal of the contest deep in the second overtime for the Mules, ending an up and down contest that saw the Ephs fall behind by three before battling back to tie it by half. Besides Piekarski, Colby (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) was lifted by Caddy Brooks’ three goals and one assist and Todd Boertzel’s three assists.
The William’s (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC) attack was spearheaded by two goals and two assists from veteran Dixon Hargrove and three goals from rookie David Hawley, playing in his first collegiate game. The Ephs rounded out the scoring with goals from Kevin Connelly, Andy Camposeo, and Tim White.
Eph Goaltender Michael Gerbush was credited with nine stops, including several big ones in the overtime, in the losing effort. Alex Farmer stepped up for the Mules, stopping 15 shots.
