The Game Story:
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomore Tom McDonnell (Manhasset, N.Y.) netted thee scores and Matt Pietroforte (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 13 saves to lead Amherst College (6-2, 1-1) in a 8-5 NESCAC victory against Connecticut College (4-3, 2-3) at Silfen Field Saturday. John -Thomas Malone (Manhasset, N.Y.) added two scores for the Lord Jeffs.

Steve Dachille (Garden City, N.Y.) netted his 10th goal of the season for the Camels. Wes Stephanian (Belmont, Mass.) and Will Schumann (East Hampton, N.Y. ) contributed with three ground balls for the hosts. Sophomore Mark Moran (Greenwich, Conn.) had eight saves to go with three ground balls for Connecticut College.

McDonnell scored twice in the opening 2:59 and the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Jesse Stevenson (Marshfield, Mass.) netted his sixth score of the season with 8:37 to play to cut the lead in half. With 7:18 to go in the first, Matt Kellman (Wilton, Conn.) put in an unassisted tally and it was a 3-1 Amherst lead. The two sides swapped goals and Kevin Nally closed out the scoring , putting one in to make it a 4-3 game.

Midway through the second quarter, Dachille induced a turnover in a clearing situation for Amherst. He was able to intercept an outlet pass from the goalie that created a one-on-one opportunity out in front of the cage for a score. At the intermission, the game was tied 4-4.

Junior Ben Eischen (Brookfield, N.H.) put the Camels on top with 13:16 remaining in the third. But with 11:14 to play, McDonnell put in his third goal of the game, scoring on a feed from Brett Miller (Wantagh, N.Y.) and the teams were knotted up in a 5-5 tie after three quarters of action.

Early in the fourth quarter, Milone was able to collect a ground ball in front of the cage and rifle one home to make it a 6-5 contest. Milone added an insurance tally with 3:04 t o play and the visitors were able to hold on for the 8-5 victory.

Kellman won 10 of 14 face-offs for the Lord Jeffs. Sam Dickey (Greenwich, Conn.) was 4-for-7 on faceoffs for Connecticut College.
