The Game Story:
CORTLAND -- Junior attackman Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/South Side) scored four goals and junior goalie Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) made a career-high 21 saves as nationally fourth-ranked Cortland (7-1) defeated 10th-ranked Nazareth 10-6 on Davis Field. The win is the first ever for Cortland over the Golden Flyers (3-3). Nazareth had won the first 13 games in the series dating back to 1989.

Junior Derek Elvin (Orchard Park) added three goals, senior Rob McKeefrey (Melville/Half Hollow Hills West) scored twice and assisted on a goal and freshman Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero North Syracuse) registered four assists for the Red Dragons. Senior Josh Lewis (Corning/Corning East) and senior Chad Kuczek (Auburn) each scored twice and senior Jarod Koopman (Waterloo) had a goal and two assists to lead Nazareth.

Cortland scored the first two goals of the game, which was played in bitter cold weather with intermittent snow flurries. Elvin scored off a Hughes assist four minutes, one second into the game and Degnan tallied an unassisted goal with 8:32 left in the quarter. Nazareth tied the game with a pair of man-up goals. Lewis scored off a Koopman assist with 7:52 remaining and Kuczek connected off a Brian Roden (Bethpage) pass with 2:10 left and the teams were tied at 2-2 after one quarter. Feltmann made eight of his 21 saves in the first period.

The Red Dragons took the lead for good with 10:55 left in the half on Elvin's goal off a Hughes pass. Degnan found the net twice in the quarter, the second on a man-up situation, and Cortland's defense held the Golden Flyers off the scoreboard until senior P.J. Rosecrans (Schenectady/Niskayuna) scored with 33 seconds remaining. Cortland scored the lone two goals of the third quarter -- Elvin unassisted 2:09 into the period and McKeefrey off an Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) assist with 3:01 remaining. The teams traded goals in the first 3:45 of the fourth quarter. A Degnan man-up goal with 4:27 left and McKeefrey's tally with 2:02 remaining helped seal the win. Nazareth scored twice in the final 44 seconds during a Cortland one-minute, non-releasable penalty.

Nazareth freshman Don Green (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) started in goal and made five saves before leaving the game due to injury with 13:32 left in the second quarter. Junior Mike Darmetko (Milton, MA/B.C. High) made 10 saves the rest of the way.

Cortland, winner of seven straight since a season-opening triple overtime loss at Adelphi, will travel to sixth-ranked Hartwick College on Saturday at noon.
