The Game Story:
CORTLAND -- Junior Derek Elvin (Orchard Park) scored four goals and assisted on another and junior Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/South Side) recorded three goals and two assists as nationally fourth-ranked Cortland (6-1, 3-0 SUNYAC) defeated visiting Oswego 17-7 in a SUNYAC matchup.

Oswego senior goalie Darin Ledwith (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) kept the Lakers (2-4, 0-1) in the game early, making 11 saves in the game's first eight minutes, many from point-blank range, before allowing a goal. The Red Dragons finally solved Ledwith with six minutes, 40 seconds left in the first quarter when senior Jason Lambert (Brentwood) tallied an unassisted goal. A goal by Elvin off a Degnan assist with 3:24 left and another Lambert goal with 55 seconds remaining gave the Red Dragons a 3-0 lead after one quarter.

Cortland outscored Oswego 6-2 in the second quarter, led by two goals from freshman Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and a goal and two assists by senior Mike Maraia (West Islip). The lead grew to 11-2 on two Degnan goals in the first three minutes of the second half. Oswego responded with three straight goals to cut the lead to 11-5 with 7:52 remaining in the quarter, but Cortland scored four straight times to take a 15-5 lead.

Hughes finished with two goals and an assist. Lambert and sophomore Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) each scored twice, Maraia ended the game with a goal and two assists and junior Tommy Maier (Fairport) registered four assists. Junior goalie Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) made seven saves over three quarters and junior Michael Draper (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) stopped six shots in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Scott Ferguson (Ronkonkoma/Connetquot) led Oswego with two goals. Junior Tim Smith (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) and junior Brian Dautrich (Auburn) each contributed a goal and an assist. Ledwith made 21 saves in three quarters, including 13 in the opening period, and sophomore Dave Moore (Webster) recorded four saves in the fourth quarter.

Cortland will host 10th-ranked Nazareth College on Wednesday, April 3, at 4 p.m.
