The Game Story:
CORTLAND -- Junior Derek Elvin (Orchard Park) scored three first-period goals, and junior Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/South Side) tallied four goals and an assist to lead nationally fourth-ranked Cortland to a 17 2 win over Potsdam in a SUNYAC matchup at Davis Field Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Red Dragons improve to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in league play, while the Bears fall to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the SUNYAC.

After junior Erik Lemelbaum (Syracuse/Nottingham) put Potsdam up 1-0 on an assist from junior Eric Lehman (Lowville) at the 13:38 mark of the first quarter, Cortland rattled off six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The Red Dragons would outscore the Bears 4-0 in the second quarter for a 10-1 halftime lead, as Degnan netted two goals and freshman Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored his second of two goals on the game.

After Degnan made it 11-1 early in the third quarter, Lemelbaum notched his second goal of the game , a man-up score, also assisted by Lehman. Cortland scored the last three goals of the quarter, one each by sophomore Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep), Degnan and senior Rob McKeefrey (Melville/Half Hollow Hills West), to make it 14-2. Cortland then added three goals in the final 15 minutes for the final 17-2 margin.

Junior Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) started in goal for Cortland and made three saves while surrendering two goals in 45:00. Junior Michael Draper (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) stopped one shot in the fourth quarter for the Red Dragons. Freshman Ryan Hanretty (Williamsville/Williamsville South) registered 20 saves for Potsdam.

The Red Dragons travel to Oneonta on Saturday with the winner claiming the SUNYAC regular-season title.
