The Game Story:
CORTLAND -- Junior Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/Southside) scored five goals, giving him 101 career points, to lead nationally fifth-ranked Cortland to a 26-6 win over Brockport Wednesday afternoon in a SUNYAC matchup at Davis Field. Overall, 14 different players scored goals for the Red Dragons. With the win, the Cortland improves to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-8 and 1-4.

After freshman Robert Siddell (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) put Brockport ahead with an unassisted goal at the 13:01 mark of the first quarter, Cortland closed the opening 15 minutes with six straight goals, two by Degnan and two by freshman Mike Bryant (Hamburg/Frontier Central). Sophomore Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) picked up three assists in the run.

In the second quarter, Brockport closed to within 7-3 on the first of three goals from freshman Mark Vastola (West Seneca/West Seneca East), but Cortland went on a 12-0 run over the remaining second quarter and deep into the third quarter to put the game away. Degnan added three goals in the binge, while Bryant scored his third and fourth goals and freshman Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) found the back of the net twice.

The Red Dragons notched the first two goals of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 22-4, as junior Rob McCurdy (Lynbrook) scored unassisted and Bryant fed junior Tommy Maier (Fairport). Brockport senior Bob Elder (Canandaigua/Bloomfield) scored the Golden Eagles' fifth goal, while Vastola notched Brockport's final goal with 6:48 remaining. Senior Steve Blanshan (North Merrick/Holy Trinity) and freshman Jack Popper (Merrick/Bellmore JFK) added late goals for Cortland for the final 26-6 margin.

Junior Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) started in goal for Cortland, making five saves and allowing three goals in 34:27. Junior Michael Draper (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) played 22:38, allowing three goals and registering two saves, while freshman Philip Ilardi (Rocky Point) made one stop in the game's final 2:55. Brockport freshman John Contratto (Lowville/Lowville Academy) made 18 saves through three quarters, giving up 20 goals, and freshman Logan Gaffney (Lancaster) stopped six shots and surrendered six goals in the fourth quarter for the Golden Eagles.

Cortland returns to action Saturday with a road game at Plattsburgh.
