The Game Story:
Greg Mavraganis and Kip Hale scored goals that broke a 10-10 tie and Denison held on to take a victory over Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Granville.

Ohio Wesleyan jumped ahead early, getting goals by freshman attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga), senior attacker Matt Coughlin (Denver, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and junior midfielder Frank Bedford (Villanova, Pa./Radnor) to take a 3-1 lead with 8:29 left in the first period, but Denison tied the game with a pair of goals in the next 2 minutes and that ended the scoring in the first quarter.

The teams traded goals 3 times in the second before the Big Red took the lead with scores by Jon Staunton and Kevin Sullivan just :27 apart, giving Denison an 8-6 lead at halftime. The Big Red added to that when Mavraganis got an unassisted goal in the opening moments of the third period for a 9-6 Big Red advantage.

This time, it was Ohio Wesleyan's turn to come back. Senior midfielder Sorrel Coulson (Gill, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) started the comeback with a goal with 5:19 left in the quarter, junior midfielder Michael Long (New Market, Md./Linganore) added a score less than a minute later and Coughlin capped the comeback by tying the game at 9-9 with 2:41 left in the period.

Denison jumped ahead on Keith Bishop's score with 1:26 left in the period, but Schlegel answered with a score with less than 10 seconds left in the third to even the game at 10-10 heading into the final quarter. each scored 2 goals as the Bishops jumped to a 5-2 lead, but Cortland State tied the game at 5-5 after the first quarter and outscored Ohio Wesleyan, 15-3, in the second half to take a non-conference win over the Bishops on Saturday at Union-Endicott High School.

Coughlin scored 1:28 into the game and junior midfielder Andy Rowe (Alpharetta, Ga./Penfield (N.Y.)) followed with a goal 32 seconds later for a quick 2-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead. The teams traded goals twice before Coughlin added his second of the game for a 5-2 Bishop lead with 5:36 left in the first quarter.

Mavraganis put Denison ahead to stay with an unassisted goal with 12:30 left in regulation time and Hale followed with a goal with 10:11 on the clock, giving the Big Red a 12-10 lead. Ohio Wesleyan struck quickly with an unassisted goal by Coughlin to close to within 12-11 with 8:51 to play, but Denison got some insurance with a man-up score by Ryan Berger with 2:37 left.

Coughlin led all players with 4 goals. Schlegel finished with 3 goals and senior attacker John Galvin (Port Washington, N.Y./Kent (Conn.)) had 2 assists. Staunton led Denison with 3 goals and an assist.
