Gettysburg (6-0) has won six consecutive games to start the season for the first time since 2002, and the Bullets won their ninth straight CC opener. Swarthmore (3-2) has lost 13 games in a row to Gettysburg.
With the game tied 2-2 at the half, Gettysburg scored four goals in the third quarter while holding the Garnet scoreless. With 7:22 left in the quarter, Pryor scored on an assist from Chase Stewart (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) to retake the lead 3-2.
Just over a minute later, the Bullets increased their lead on a goal from Evan Gallant (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) off a spectacular pass from Chris Renzi (Fairport, NY/Fairport). Pryor assisted the final two goals of the quarter with T.J. Liberto (Arnold, MD/St. Mary's) scoring what would prove to be the game winner with 3:17 left in the period.
Swathmore tried to pull back into the game, getting unassisted goals from Ivano Ventresca and Ben Young. However, strong defense anchored by goalkeeper Pat Vaughan (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola) and an additional strike from Stewart midway through the final quarter kept Gettysburg on top.
A minute and a half into the game, Stewart netted the first goal of the contest. After Stewart’s unassisted goal, neither team would score for 25:49. Swarthmore’s Jay Charles tied the game with 2:37 left in the half.
Pryor scored his first goal of the game with 1:09 left in the frame on an assist from Andrew Mavraganis (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield). Before the halftime horn sounded, the Garnet’s Stelios Wilson tied the game at two.
Pryor recorded a game-high four points (two goals, two assists) and Stewart tallied three points (two goals, one assist).
Renzi won 12-of-14 faceoffs and scooped a game-high 10 ground balls.
Swarthmore goalkeeper Frank Mazzucco made 10 saves while Vaughan made five saves for his sixth win of the season.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at home against Muhlenberg. Game time is 7 p.m. |
