The Game Story:
TOWSON, MD - On the way to a 13-3 record in 2001, Goucher College was a perfect 4-0 in one-goal games. Today, however, the Gophers were on the other end of a one-goal decision, losing at home to Dickinson, 9-8. A goal by Qadir Stern (Lower Merion, PA/Lower Merion) with :29 remaining in the fourth quarter trimmed what had been a four-goal lead for Dickinson (1-4) earlier in the period down to 9-8. The Gophers managed to win the subsequent face-off and get a shot off just seconds before time expired, but the shot that would had forced overtime had it gone in stayed wide.

One game after Phil Anthony (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) became the all-time leader in career assists at Goucher, the senior attackman collected his 100th career goal. Anthony reached the milestone that only three others in school history have achieved with 2:32 remaining in the first quarter and his goal tied the score at 2-2. The Gophers (3-2) took their only lead of the contest on a goal by Stern with 1:22 left in the opening period, but the lead last less than a minute as an unassisted goal by Jack Miner of the Red Devils created a 3-3 tie.

Neither team was able to dent the scoreboard in the second quarter, so the 3-3 tie held up until Dickinson reeled off four goals in a span of 5:17 of the third quarter. After three periods, the Red Devils enjoyed a 7-4 lead. Miner had a hand in five of Dickinson's nine goals, scoring three times and picking up two assists. Stern supplied the Gophers with a pair of goals, as did Max Agee (Towson, MD/Towson).
