The Game Story:
TOWSON, MD — Even after Goucher surrendered the 2-0 lead it held over Salisbury in the first quarter today, the Gophers stayed within three goals of the three-time defending Division III national champions until the Sea Gulls reeled off six unanswered goals in the third period on the way to a 16-7 Capital Athletic Conference victory.

The Gophers (1-2, 0-1 CAC), who trailed 7-5 at the half, pulled to within 7-6 on an unassisted extra-man goal by Sam Fitzpatrick (Littleton, CO/Arapahoe) less than three minutes into the third quarter. The Sea Gulls responded with their 6-0 run, which featured a pair of goals by both Ryan Rohde and Matt Dasinger.

Heading into the fourth period, Salisbury (4-0, 3-0 CAC) enjoyed a 13-6 lead.

The Gophers again struck first in the fourth quarter, but the extra-man goal by Dan Flamholz (Baltimore, MD/Park School) turned out to be their final score of the contest. Kylor Berkman had a hand in the Sea Gulls' final three goals, scoring one of them and picking up assists on goals by Eric Bishop and Ryan DeRose.

Goucher, which had won nine straight games in Gopher Stadium dating back to the 2003 season, jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on goals by Bryant Boucher (North Wales, PA/North Penn) and James Clement III (Dallas, TX/Episcopal School). After the Sea Gulls took their first lead of the contest on a goal by Rohde that snapped a 2-2 tie with 6:10 remaining in the opening period, Brent Shea (Fallston, MD/Fallston) tied things up with an extra-man goal for the Gophers with 2:30 showing on the clock.

Salisbury went ahead for good on an extra-man goal by Bishop with just :22 remaining in the first quarter.

Rohde supplied the Sea Gulls with five goals and a pair of assists. Bishop finished with three goals and two assists.

For Goucher, Fitzpatrick tallied two goals and Flamholz contributed one goal and a pair of assists.

In goal, freshman Austin Hayes (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) was credited with a 19 saves for Goucher.
