The Game Story:
TOWSON, MD - In a game in which the two teams were never separated by more than two goals, Mike Medley (Baltimore, MD/Greenwich, CT) scored his only goal of the contest with :21 showing on the clock in the fourth quarter to provide Goucher College with a 10-9 triumph over St. Mary's (Md.) this afternoon. It's the second year in a row that the Gophers have defeated the Seahawks, 10-9, by scoring the final goal of the game. Last year, Phil Anthony (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tallied the game-winning goal with 2:37 remaining.

Anthony supplied the Gophers (7-5, 3-3 Capital Athletic Conference) with four goals and an assist today. The first of his four goals was the 122nd of his career, making him the all-time leader in career goals at Goucher. This season the senior attackman has caught and passed Tim Asher (1996-99) as the Gophers' career leader in goals, points and assists. Qadir Stern (Lower Merion, PA/Lower Merion), who was credited with an assist on Medley's game-winning goal, scored three times to move into third place in career goals at Goucher with 117.

The Seahawks (4-8, 4-2 Capital Athletic Conference) trailed 5-3 at the half, but went ahead for the first time on an extra-man goal by Kevin Whalen less than six minutes into the third quarter. Andrew Toussaint had a hand in all five St. Mary's goals in the period, scoring two of them and picking up three assists. Doug Mayer's unassisted goal with 4:29 remaining snapped an 8-8 tie and put St. Mary's ahead for the final time. The Gophers drew even at 9-9 on Stern's third goal of the contest with 2:16 showing on the clock.

Both goalkeepers reached double figures in saves. Mike Watkins made 12 saves in goal for the Seahawks, while Michael Amash (Guilderland, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) stopped 10 shots as he started his 57th consecutive game for Goucher.
