The Game Story:
TOWSON, MD - Goucher College was :01 away today from allowing an opponent to score only one goal in a game for just the second time in school history. The Gophers (9-6) gave up a goal right before time expired in the fourth quarter, but still came away with an 8-2 triumph over Elizabethtown (5-8). Goalkeepers Michael Amash (Guilderland, NY/Christian Brothers Academy), who was making his 60th consecutive start for Goucher, and Reeves Craig (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) combined to make 11 saves in the victory, which assures the Gophers of a winning record in 2002. Amash, the all-time leader in career saves at Goucher with 756, stopped nine shots and allowed only a fourth-period goal by Justin McQuaid. Craig entered the game with 9:11 remaining and made two saves before giving up the late goal to Matt Newell. The last time Goucher allowed an opponent only two goals in a game was a 12-2 triumph over Franklin & Marshall in 1998. Back in 1994, the Gophers defeated Villa Julie, 17-1.

Three Goucher players scored as many goals today as the entire Elizabethtown team. Phil Anthony (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) tallied the Gophers' only goals in the first and fourth quarters, allowing him to tie the single-season school record of 47 goals by an individual. In addition to contributing a pair of goals to the victory, T. Scott Robertson (Greenwood Village, CO/Cherry Creek) won nine of the 12 face-offs he attempted. With his two goals today, Qadir Stern (Lower Merion, PA/Lower Merion) moved into a tie for second place in career goals at Goucher with 121. Regis D'Angelo (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) and Max Agee (Towson, MD/Towson) accounted for Goucher's other two goals.

Goucher's man-down defense didn't allow a goal on any of the Blue Jays' five extra-man opportunities. For the season, the Gophers have 64 stops on 79 extra-man situations (.810).
