The Shoremen (5-0) held a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, but opened things up in the middle period, outscoring the Quakers (2-4), 5-0, in the second quarter and, 7-0, in the third quarter.
Junior attackman Kevin Nolan (Clark, NJ/A.L. Johnson) scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead the Shoremen. Sophomore attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) added three goals, while senior attackman Sam Lane (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield), junior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME), and senior midfielder Ryan Morrison (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset/Salisbury School, CT) each scored two goals. Freshman attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) finished with a goal and two assists, while junior midfielder Mike Hughes (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) added a goal and an assist. Thirteen different Shoremen scored in the victory. Freshman midfielder Thayer Damm (Huntington Valley, PA/LaSalle) went 9-for-14 on face-offs and scooped up six ground balls.
Senior goalie Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, CT/Avon Old Farms) played the first three quarters for the Shoremen and made four saves while allowing one goal. Freshman Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) played the final quarter, making two saves and allowing two goals.
Matthew Conrad scored two goals to lead Guilford.
The Shoremen outshot the Quakers, 23-2, in the third quarter alone. In addition to their wide advantage in shots, the Shoremen also held a 39-21 edge in ground balls.
The Shoremen open Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. home game against McDaniel. |
