scored five goals, while sophomore Jeremy Bull (Raleigh, NC) recorded 18 saves in the net to lead the ninth-ranked
Tigers? lacrosse team past Roanoke, 13-6. Hampden-Sydney is now 7-1 on the year and 1-0 in the ODAC, while
Roanoke falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC.
Hampden-Sydney held a slim 2-0 advantage after the first quarter as Jason Rostan (Farmville, VA) and Fassnacht
each scored goals. In the second, Roanoke?s Colin Burke cut the Tiger lead to one with a strike at the 14:14 mark, but
goals by Fassnacht and Rostan within 30 seconds of each other pushed the Tiger lead back to three, 4-1.
Roanoke?s Kris Davis scored two goals in a row for the Maroons late in the second quarter, but Jason Rostan?s third
goal of the half made the halftime score, 5-3. The Maroons struck first in the third quarter, as Joe Weeren and Andy
Bonasera each scored goals to knot the game, 5-5, with 6:46 to play in the quarter. However, the Tigers answered
with three straight goals in the closing minutes of the quarter, including strikes by Chris Lucas (Fairfax Station, VA),
Phil Dick (Salem, VA) and Fassnacht, to hold an 8-5 advantage heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Hampden-Sydney as the Tigers scored three straight unassisted goals, including the first
strike of the game by Wilson MacIlwaine (Charlottesville, VA), along with goals by Dick and Fassnacht to take a
commanding 11-5 lead. The Maroons answered with 3:04 to play as Trey Bailey connected on his first collegiate goal,
but Hampden-Sydney closed out the game with goals by Fassnacht and Scott Claiborne (Woodbridge, VA) to take the
victory, 13-6.
Hampden-Sydney sophomore keeper Jeremy Bull (Raleigh, NC) registered a career-best 18 saves in the net for the
Tigers, while Matt Fassnacht led all players with five goals, and Jason Rostan (Farmville, VA) finished with three goals
and one assist. Chris Lucas registered a goal and three assists, while Dick finished with two goals, John Neal
(Richmond, VA) with two assists and MacIlwaine and Claiborne with one goal each.
The Maroons were paced by Kris Davis? two goals, while Bonasera, Bailey, Burke and Weeren each finished with one.
Maroon keeper Tim Morse recorded 11 saves in the net.
The shots on goal were even for both squads (41), while Hampden-Sydney held the face-off advantage, 17-6, and
scored three extra man goals in four opportunities. The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, April 3, as the team
hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 3 pm at Hundley Stadium. |
