The Game Story:
HAVERFORD -- Senior Joe Mauri (two goals, two assists) returned from a
three-game absence due to injury and led Haverford to victory over McDaniel
for the second straight year Saturday.
Mauri scored 14 seconds after fellow senior Ben Reed early in the fourth
quarter to break a 6-6 deadlock between the Centennial Conference rivals
after 45 minutes of play.
Sophomore Dean Granoff's second goal with 6:26 left in the game proved to
be the game-winner. He was joined with two goals in the game by his
classmates Mike Distler (assist) and Matt Thorne-Fitzgerald. Max Tcheyan
had a goal and two assists, and Reed and Matt Handel also had assists for
the Fords (5-3, 1-0).
The visiting Green Terror (3-3, 0-2) scored the first two goals of each
half, but could manage only four other goals, including one by Brad Baer
during a three-minute non-releasable penalty at the start of the second
period. The visitors' Chris Edmonds had two goals and an assist, while
Kolyn Kirby had one goal to go along with four assists.
Haverford junior goalie K.C. Peterson had four of his 11 saves in the
fourth quarter, while McDaniel keeper Ben Yingling stopped five of his 13 in
the opening quarter.
