With the win, the Bombers secured the Empire 8 regular-season title, the fifth straight year Ithaca has won at least a share of the conference regular-season title.
Senior Craig Lepiane (West Irondequoit/Rochester) led the Bombers with five points (three goals and two assists). Classmate Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) and junior Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) each tallied three goals in the game.
Lepiane started the scoring, and Siefert added a man-up goal from Lepiane at 7:56 of the first for a 2-0 lead. Ithaca extended the lead to 7-3 at the half. Bush started the scoring in the third quarter with an unassisted goal at 13:57. The two teams traded goals until Nelligan and Siefert tallied goals at the end to secure the win.
Stevens came in to the game ranked seventh in the country in scoring defense at six goals per game. Ithaca’s 13 goals were the most the Ducks have given up this season.
Ithaca was 12-for-22 in faceoffs, with sophomore Nic Neuman (West/Madison, Wis.) winning eight of the 11 he took. He also led the team with seven ground balls in the game.
The Bomber defense allowed just 27 shots and tallied six caused turnovers in the game.
Senior Kevin Bush (Arapahoe [Colo.]/St. George Island, Fla.) added two goals for the Bombers, while classmate Logan Bobzien (Arapahoe/Centennial, Colo.) and sophomore Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) each tallied a goal for Ithaca.
Freshman David Gal (Loomis Chafee (Conn.)/Amherst, Mass.) made six saves in net for his fourth win of the season.
The Bombers wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Elmira for an Empire 8 game at 4 p.m.
Ithaca will host a semifinal game of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament Friday, April 25 at Upper Terrace Field. The tenth-ranked Bombers will take on St. John Fisher at 4 p.m. |
