The Warriors are currently in second place in the MAC.
Sophomore Ed Williams (Florham Park, N.J.) and freshman Andrew Stoner (Orangeville, Ont.) led Lycoming with three goals apiece, while seniors Dan Cannon (Orangeville, Ont.) and Jim Cusick (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and freshman Josh Perreault (Penn Yan, N.Y.) notched two goals each. Cannon recorded an amazing eight assists which ties him for second in the Warriors record book for assists in a game.
Lycoming scored nine first quarter goals to one by DeSales. Nate Walter (Harrisburg, Pa.) began the blue and gold scoring off of a Cannon assist just seven seconds into the contest. The Warriors racked up eight straight goals before DeSales found the net with 8.6 seconds left in the opening period. Lycoming’s Mike Doherty (Berlin, Md.) won the ensuing face-off and freshman Jeff DeLong (Hilton, N.Y.) scored with one-tenth of a second left on the clock.
Mike Doherty scoops a GBDoherty continued to dominate as a face-off specialist, winning 20-of-22 face-offs and scooping up 11 ground balls. Doherty currently leads the nation in ground balls per game with a 10.69 average. He is lingering near the top-ten in face-off win percentage. Junior J.P Earp (Hilltop Lakes, Tex.) is second on the team in ground balls and notched eight against DeSales.
Lycoming led 14-2 at halftime and won the second-half 6-1. Williams completed the scoring off of a Steve Henz (Shoreham, N.Y.) feed with 3:59 left in the fourth quarter. Starting goalie Kyle Gilfoy (Exton, Pa.) made five saves for the afternoon to gain the win. Gilfoy gave way to freshmen Alan Antinarelli (Rochester, N.Y.) and Josh Danmyer (White Hall Md.) in the final period.
The Warriors travel to Elizabethtown (4-8, 2-3) on Wednesday, April 23 for a 4 p.m. conference match-up. |
