The Game Story:
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College Hornet men’s lacrosse team opened the 2007 season on Saturday with a 14-9 win over visiting Haverford College in a non-conference game, behind five goals from sophomore Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield).

The Hornets held a 6-1 lead with 1:36 left in the first but saw Haverford reel off five of the next six goals to close the score to 7-6 going into the half. Lynchburg would seal the game in the third by outscoring the Fords 5-0 behind two Brian McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) goals in the stretch.

Tolson tacked on an assist along with four groundballs, while McCulloch found the back of net three times and assisted on another. Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) scored once and added three helpers, Leon Bournes (Washington DC/Arch. Carroll) also added two goals, while goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) scored once and made 13 saves.

Haverford was led by Max Tcheyan and Mike Distler who each had three goals – and John-Paul Cashiola made 10 saves. Haverford won the face-off battle, securing 17 of 27, and also grabbed one more groundball than the Hornets (37-36)

Lynchburg goes to 1-0 on the season while Haverford drops to 0-1. The men’s lacrosse team’s next game is on Sunday, March 4, against Ohio Wesleyan University on Shellenberger Field at 1 p.m.
