It was the seventh-straight win for the Warriors and their second conference victory.
Lycoming's Nate Walter and Dan Cannon scored four goals apiece, while Andrew Stoner, Shea Conway, James Cusick, Rick DeNenno, and Steven Henz each had one goal. Michael Doherty won 13-of-19 face-offs taken and grabbed a game-high 12 ground balls.
Manhattanville men’s lacrosse goalie Andrew Predun (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) made a career-high 26 saves, but the Valiants were outshot 53-28 and defeated by Lycoming 13-4 Saturday at GoValiants.com Field in the team’s second Middle Atlantic Conference game of the season.
“It came down to ground balls and face-offs, which they dominated, and we were forced to play a lot of defense,” said Manhattanville Head Coach Todd Hodgson. “Andrew played a tremendous game today and really made some phenomenal saves.”
Predun’s 26 saves surpassed his previous career-high of 23, set on three occasions in his freshman season of 2007, on February 24, 2007 against King’s, April 4 against Merchant Marine, and April 7 against Montclair State. On the season, he has stopped 84 shots and has earned a respectable .618 save percentage.
Lycoming put the ball past Predun 1:23 into the game when James Cusick fired a shot past the Valiant goalie but upon a routine stick check by the officials, the goal was taken off the board when Cusick’s pocket was ruled too deep. The Warriors then proceeded to score six goals before the Valiants would score their first. Nathan Walter, who finished with four goals for Lycoming, tallied three of the first four Warrior goals.
Joey Hasbrouck ( Wantagh, N.Y. ) tied a career-high after registering his 35th point of the season in the loss. Hasbrouck scored Manhattanville’s first goal of the game, wrapping around the net and beating Lycoming goalie Kyle Gilfroy over the shoulder. Hasbrouck scored twice more to record his fourth game of the season with at least three goals. He also assisted on a man-up goal from Andrew McMillin (Garden City, N.Y.) for his seventh game of the season with at least four points.
Hasbrouck’s third goal came courtesy of Luke Dorfman ( Freeport, N.Y. ) who made a stellar pass to Hasbrouck while being knocked down in front of the Lycoming cage to set up the goal. Prior to the game, Dorfman was honored for becoming the sixth Valiant in program history to reach 100 career goals. |
