The Game Story:
FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Mary Washington College men?s lacrosse team scored twice in the final 1:17 of regulation to tie the score and send the game to overtime, but Swarthmore's Than Court scored the game-winner with 21.5 seconds remaining in the extra frame to give Swarthmore a 10-9 win at Mary Washington College in both teams' opener on Saturday.

Mary Washington held a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, thanks to goals by Matt Wiles (Gainesville, VA/Paul VI) and Jamie Test (Alexandria, VA/Gonzaga). Swarthmore responded by outscoring the Eagles, 4-0, in the second frame. Joe DeSimone led the charge with two second quarter goals for Swarthmore.

The Eagles trailed, 6-5, after three quarters, and were behind, 9-7, wit 1:17 left in the fourth quarter, when Wiles scored the fourth of his goals on the day. After the Eagles took the faceoff, Randy Fulk (Annandale, VA/Paul VI) scored the tying goal on a break with just 54.2 seconds left.

All was for naught, however, as Swarthmore's Court ended the game with a goal with 21.5 second left in the first overtime. Mike D'Eredita had four saves for MWC, while Matt McConnell added eight saves for the Eagles. Steven Isbister and Ryan Croken combined for ten saves for Swarthmore.

Mary Washington will host Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 3 pm at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
