Gettysburg (9-1) has won all seven meetings in the all-time series against Messiah (5-5).
Evan Gallant (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield), Jared Harriman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) and Kevin Freehill (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each scored two goals for the Bullets, and goalkeeper Pat Vaughan (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola) made 13 saves in the win. Nick Ricucci and Tosh Tryon each tallied two goals in the loss for the Falcons.
Gettysburg jumped out to a 7-1 advantage at half time. The Bullets scored the first two goals of the game less than three minutes into the contest. Freehill and Gallant each connected on strikes. Harriman followed with a man-up goal to take a 3-0 advantage.
Tryon tallied an unassisted goal to put Messiah on the scoreboard late in the first quarter. The Bullets then outscored the Falcons 4-0 in the second quarter. Pryor scored back-to-back goals to start the period and Harriman and Greg Montgomery (Asheville, NC/St. Andrew's School [DE]) each found the back of the cage to give Gettysburg a 7-1 halftime lead.
After almost 10 scoreless minutes of play to start the third quarter, Pryor recorded his hat trick with an unassisted goal with 5:13 on the clock. Trip Dyer (Ocean View, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]) scored for the Bullets before Alex Finch and Tryon pulled the Falcons within 9-3 at the close of the quarter.
Gettysburg scored three times in the final frame as the Bullets cruised to a 12-5 win.
The Bullets held a 40-20 advantage in groundballs, and Gettysburg was led by Chris Renzi (Fairport, NY/Fairport) who grabbed a season-high 11 groundballs in the victory.
Vaughan, the nation’s leader in goals against average, only allowed five goals for his ninth win of the season.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at Ursinus. Game time is 3 p.m. |
