The Game Story:
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury will host and play in the NESCAC Championship game for the third straight season after a 14-8 win over Amherst in the NESCAC semifinals in Vermont. The Panthers will take on the winner of the Tufts/Wesleyan game played later today. Amherst ends its season with a 10-5 record.

Amherst came out strong, scoring four of the final five goals of the first quarter to take a 5-3 lead. Andrew Syru and Chris Condlin each had two goals during the run. Middlebury answered in the second quarter with the first three goals of the session to take a 6-5 lead. Joaquin Walker answered for the Jeffs to knot the game at six at the intermission.

The game remained at 6-6 until Middlebury scored two goals in 20 seconds during the six-minute mark of the third quarter. Greg Bastis scored the first goal driving to his right, while Mike Saraceni made it an 8-6 game. The run continued as the Panthers scored two more, giving them four goals in a 3:06 span to take a 10-6 lead. Amherst cut the lead to 10-7 with 1:40 left in the quarter. Charley Howe helped put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter as he scored two of Middlebury's first three goals of the quarter to give them a 13-7 lead with 12:12 remaining. Amherst answered before Saraceni scored the game's final goal with 7:38 left to play.

Saraceni led the Panthers with four goals, while Greg Bastis scored three on the afternoon. Syru, Condlin and Joaquin had two apiece for Amherst.
