held Amherst to just one second half goal on its way to a 16-5 win in the
semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament at Middlebury. The Panthers will take on
the winner of the Bowdoin/Colby game played later today. The title game will
take place tomorrow at noon.
Tied at one, Middlebury scored three goals, two by Mike Saraceni, in
the final 6:52 of the first quarter to take a 4-1 lead after one. In the
second quarter, the team's exchanged six goals, including two by
Middlebury's Matt Dunn to make it a 7-4 game at the half. Goals by Dunn and
Zach Herbert gave the Panthers a 9-4 lead, before Amherst's Bryan Hiller
scored the Jeff's final goal of the game with 1:27 left in the third
quarter. The fourth quarter was all Middlebury as they scored seven
unanswered goals for the 16-5 win.
Dunn led the Panther attack with six goals and one assist, while
Peter Albro and Mike Saraceni had three goals and one assist apice. Charley
Howe added a pair of goals in the win, while Herbert had a goal and an
assist. Matt Margolis paced Amherst with one goal and one assist.
Krieger was solid in net for the Panthers, making 16 stops on the
afternoon, while his counterpart, Cushing Donelan, made 10.
