appearance in the NCAA Lacrosse Championship game after a 12-6 win over
Ithaca in the semifinals. The two-time defending NCAA Champions will face
Gettysburg in a rematch of last season's title game. The game will take
place on Sunday, May 26th at noon on the campus of Rutgers University.
Ithaca jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Brian Weil and
Nick Mayer. Middlebury got on the board with just 30 seconds left in the
first quarter as Christopher Davis found the back of the net. David Seeley
tied the game early in the second quarter before Ithaca regained the lead on
Mayer's second goal of the game with 4:45 left in the half.
Middlebury was dominant in the third quarter, scoring the first five
goals, including four in a 3:06 span to take a 7-3 lead. Greg Carroll got
the run going with a man-up goal before Matt Dunn bounced in a shot just 25
seconds later to give Middlebury it's first lead of the game at 4-3 with
14:09 left in the third quarter. Zach Herbert found Mike Frissora, Grayson
Fertig scored cutting to the goal, while Peter Albro rounded out the run to
make it a 7-3 game. Later in the quarter, Middlebury goalkeeper Eric Krieger
came up big, with three point-blank saves during the final three minutes of
the third quarter to preserve the lead. Casey ended Middlebury's five-goal
run with 39 seconds left in the quarter, but Dunn answered back with nine
seconds left to give Middlebury an 8-4 lead after three quarters.
Dennis Juleff scored a man-up goal to cut the lead to 8-5 just 50
seconds into the fourth quarter, but Middlebury ran off four straight goals
to seal the win before Weil scored with 2:24 remaining for the game's final
goal.
Dunn paced the Panthers with two goals and four assists, while
Seeley and Albro added two goals apiece. Weil led Ithaca with two goals and
two assists, while Mayer added a pair of goals. Krieger made 14 saves in
goal for Middlebury, while Ryan Martin made 10 saves for Ithaca.
