The Game Story:
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - NESCAC Player of the Year Matt Dunn took a pass from Zach Herbert in front of the cage with 3:06 remaining and beat Whittier netminder Adam Messick with a shot just inside the post to give Middlebury a 13-12 victory in an NCAA Quarterfinal game on Sunday. The two-time defending national champions advance to the semifinals where they will likely host Ithaca next weekend, with times and dates to be announced.

In a game of scoring streaks the Panthers broke through first, scoring the first three goals to take an early edge. Whittier rebounded to score eight of the games' next nine goals to take an 8-4 lead late in the first half. Dan Finck and Luke Gilbert scored two goals apiece in the run, before Middlebury got one back from Matt Dunn shortly before the intermission. The third quarter saw the Panthers creep back into the contest, outscoring the Poets 4-2 to close the lead to 10-9 entering the fourth. Middlebury scored the first two goals of the final period to regain the lead at 11-10. Whittier tied the contest at 11 before the Panthers took a 12-11 edge at 12:01. The Poets refused to go away, as Ryder Bateman scored at 9:31 to knot the contest at 12, setting up Dunn's game-winner.

Eric Kreiger made four saves for the Panthers, while Adam Messick made 13 saves for the Poets.
