The Game Story:
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 19, 2004) -- Nazareth's men's lacrosse team used another strong fourth-quarter effort Friday to remain unbeaten as the Golden Flyers improved to 4-0 with an 11-9 victory over Amherst at Sylvan Lake Park.

Leading 6-5 heading into the fourth quarter, Nazareth surrendered a goal in the first 11 seconds of the period, then scored five of the next six goals to take control.

Freshman Kevin Gibbons (pictured) enabled Nazareth to regain the lead for good with an unassisted score, his second of the game, with 12:27 to play. Bryan Coon added both of his goals in the fourth quarter and Brandon Brown and Justin Wahl also contributed key goals in the final 15 minutes.

Nazareth had quarter leads of 3-1, 4-2, and 6-5. Joaquin Walker scored his first of three goals to give Amherst a 1-0 lead, but Nazareth rallied on goals by Ryan Feltner, Brian Navarra, and Brown to take the lead. Bryan Adams scored unassisted in the second quarter, before Colby Griffith scored for Amherst to make it 4-2 before halftime.

Nazareth got third-quarter goals from Gibbons and Navarra, but Amherst stayed close with a goal from Alex Casertano and two by Walker, the second with just six seconds left in the period to draw Amherst to within 6-5. Long-stick Andrew Wilcox scooped up the ensuing ground ball off the fourth-quarter face-off and scored unassisted to tie the score at 6-6.

Brown had two assists in addition to his two goals for the Golden Flyers, ranked fifth nationally in Division III. Sophomore goalie Alex Civalier made 19 saves, including 14 in the first half. Nazareth enjoyed a 41-39 advantage in shots and a 50-43 edge in ground balls.
