The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 16, 2004) -- The Nazareth men's lacrosse team showed no ill effects from a two-week layoff Sunday as the Golden Flyers scored early and often in an 18-4 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University in a second-round game in the NCAA Division III Tournament at Golden Flyer Stadium.

Nazareth improved to 14-2 and earned a quarterfinal date at Cortland Wednesday at a time to be determined. Cortland defeated Clarkson Sunday, 14-3.

Sunday's game was Nazareth's first since May 2 when the Golden Flyers clinched the Empire 8 Conference title with a win at Ithaca. The Golden Flyers came out firing by scoring seven times in the first quarter and extending their lead to 16-1 late in the third quarter.

Nazareth had 10 different goal scorers, including sophomore goalie Alex Civalier, who netted his first career goal following a coast-to-caost jaunt late in the first quarter to give the Golden Flyers a 6-0 advantage. Freshman Chad Amidon and sophomore Bryan Adams each finished with three goals and senior Justin Wahl added two goals and three assists. T.J. Rogers, Bryan Coon, and Brandon Brown (pictured) each had two goals.

Brown scored both of his goals in the first quarter while Nazareth was building a 7-0 lead. Amir Loghmanieh finally got ECSU (11-6) on the board with a man-up score early in the second quarter. Adams and Rogers each scored for Nazareth in the second quarter as the Golden Flyers settled for a 9-1 halftime lead.

Nazareth effectively doused any ECSU comeback hopes by scoring seven more times in the third quarter with Adams and Coon each scoring twice during that stretch.

Nazareth enjoyed sizeable advantages in shots (50-19), ground balls (59-39), and face-offs (18-of-26). Sophomore Brian Gaffney and freshman Andrew Russo each won 9 of 13 face-offs.

Wednesday's game at Cortland will be a rematch of an exciting regular-season meeting between the two teams in which Cortland rallied for a 13-12 overtime win.
