| | | | Current Record : (1-10) | Current Record : (10-2) | | | | Go to team page > | Go to team page > | | | | | | The Game Story: | April 30 – The Oberlin College men’s lacrosse team was unable to overcome a slow start against NCAC foe Kenyon College this afternoon, falling 22-14. For five seniors it was the final home contest at Savage Stadium.
The short-handed Yeomen defense was unable to fend off a Kenyon College (10-2, 3-1 NCAC) offense that came out firing on all cylinders rattling off ten goals during the opening quarter. Nick Zoroya opened the Oberlin goal account by putting a shot past the Lords’ goalie with 8:06 remaining in the first quarter. Jesse Kane took one to the cage following a face off to notch the second Yeomen goal.
The OC defense stiffened at the start of the second stanza holding Kenyon back for the first six minutes of the period. Rob Bond nearly got his first goal as he fired one off of the post. Bond later found the back of the net midway through the quarter, the first of four goals on the day. Alex Jacobs did some damage as well netting four goals and dishing out a pair assists.
Oberlin trailed 14-3 at the break but were able to outscore Kenyon over the final two quarters of play 11-8, however, it would turn out to be too little too late. Jesse Kane handed out six assists and Nick Thypin-Bermeo put two past the Kenyon netminder and aided in three other goals. The Yeomen offense had seven players find the back of the net.
The Yeomen were out-shot 51-30 and the Lords also had the edge 49-38 in ground balls.
Goalie Drew Zambelli looked as if he was going to keep Kenyon at bay early in the match as he turned away a point blank shot in the opening minute of play. He finished the game with 20 saves off 51 Kenyon shots, 15 of his saves came during the first 30 minutes of play.
Seniors Zambelli, Chris Sanders, Mat Markman, Timmons Erickson and Drew Terry saw action in their final home game in Yeomen uniforms this afternoon. They and the rest of the OC men’s lacrosse team will look to regroup for the final 2008 contest as they travel to Washington and Jefferson, Saturday, May 3 for a 1:30 p.m. face-off. |
